Test Card
Pregnancy tests and fast results
First of all be thankful to medical science which allows you to test for this in the privacy and convenience of your home. Just pick up a home pregnancy test kit from any store nearby and get the truth in two minutes!
All the tests available detect the amount of hCG(human chorionic gonadotropin) in urine which is known as the pregnancy hormone. The test is based on the fact that when pregnancy occurs hCG level shoots up. Most pregnancy tests will show an accurate result on the first day of the missed period but it is more reliable if you wait for at least 3 to 4 days after the missed period to test. How to use a home pregnancy kit:
* It is stored in a refrigerator but must be brought to room temperature before testing
* Collect urine in a dry container
* Draw two drops using the dropper available in the kit and put into the well marked S on the test card
* Read two pink lines as positive and one line as negative, and if no band or line appears the test is considered invalid
Sometimes although it is rare the test can be falsely positive due to ectopic pregnancy in which the embryo plants itself in the fallopian tube or sometimes in the cervix instead of uterus. Using infertility drugs may also at times show false results but alcohol or antibiotics do not interfere with the result.
How ever if you are in a real hurry and cannot wait for even a couple of days then you can go ahead with a blood test which will have to be done through a doctor. Even a small amount of the hormone can be detected in the blood hence this test can detect pregnancy earlier than a urine test.
Once the test result is positive you will obviously see a doctor but remember that if result is negative and your periods are still missing especially when you have been trying for pregnancy you must not delay the visit to the doctor.
Home pregnancy tests save time and reduce the unease of going to the doctor because of only a missed period.
